Conferences

YWiC and other NMSU students have had the incredible opportunity to travel to different conferences around the world. The conferences have provided YWiC the chance to network with people and programs that have the same goals, present research in poster sessions, gain leadership skills, and so much more!

Richard Tapia Celebration of Diversity in Computing

The Tapia conference is a premier venue to acknowledge, to promote and to celebrate diversity in computing. This year’s conference focuses on the fact that diversity is simply the smarter choice. “Whether we seek innovation, intelligence, creativity, strength or beauty of ideas, the best outcomes will come from a diverse set of perspectives, a diverse set of experiences, and a diverse set of people.” – Tapia Conference

Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing

The Grace Hopper Celebration of Women in Computing (GHC), inspired by the legacy of Rear Admiral Grace Murray Hopper, brings the research and career interests of women in the technical fields to the forefront, and is the largest gathering of technical women. YWiC has had the chance to attend GHC since 2009, and plans to continue to do so in the future.

CAHSI Consortium

The Computing Alliance of Hispanic-Serving Institutions (CAHSI) is a “consortium of [ten] universities that are committed to increasing the number of Hispanics who earn baccalaureate and advanced degrees in computing.”

Expanding Your Horizons

Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) Conferences offer a unique – and fun! – opportunity for young women in middle and high school to explore their career options through small hands-on technical career workshops! The ultimate goal of EYH Conferences are to motivate girls to become innovative and creative thinkers ready to meet 21st Century challenges! Each workshop is led by a female professional (or two!) from our community who have found satisfying careers in computing, mathematics, engineering, biology, medicine, and other technical and non-traditional careers. The conferences also include a session for parents, teachers, and other adults who accompany the students to EYH.
